How lower energy levels can be advantageous
by Astrid Ferguson
I know what I am about to tell you sounds counterintuitive. You probably constantly hear, “vibrate higher, high vibes, or high vibrational energy.” What we miss is that most people are attracted to low vibes. Including you reading this right now my friend. Don’t believe me? Let’s do the energy test.
Tell me: do you have a hard time saying no to people who say things such as, “I really need your help” only to later complain about feeling used? Do you find yourself being the first to offer a hand when someone feels stuck? Better yet, do you instantly gravitate toward the bad news around the world and get easily angered by social media? What about those friends who have taken advantage of your kindness? They always ask, but when you need something, mysteriously, they’re too busy, their computer crashes, their fingers stop working, or they make new friends and you keep getting their voicemail.
If you answered, “No” to all of the above questions, you are probably the person who uses lower energy levels to your advantage. Congratulations! You’re ahead of the herd. If you answered, “Yes” to most of the above, I’m glad I’m not alone in this subgroup. If you’re like, “Wait, Astrid make it make sense!” No worries! I got you! Before getting all defensive, let me say, anger is also a lower vibrational energy that can be used intentionally. Therefore, when I say use lower energy to your advantage I don’t mean manipulate others. Instead, I mean to use it to demand immediate action. Some people are combative by nature. It doesn’t mean that they are manipulative; it simply means they require more convincing.
So when we use lower energy levels with intention in certain circumstances that require immediate action, this can work to our benefit. The following is an example of how we can use lower energy level (anger) to our advantage:
Scene: Unhappy Post Office Customer
Sandra: Hi! I received this notice stating my mailbox will be permanently closed unless I fill out this form with my new payment information for the annual fee.
Postoffice Employee: Yes! We ask our customers to fill those out every year or after a failed payment attempt.
Sandra: Completely understand. My concern is that I have now filled out this form twice and I need my mailbox for business purposes. So can you tell me why I keep getting this notice?
Postoffice Employee: Oh no! Let me check your account and see if it’s been updated.
Sandra: Thank you!
***Sandra waits for the postoffice employee to check her account.
Postoffice Employee: Returns and says, “I’m sorry ma’am, but we don’t have anything on file showing receipt of form or your updated payment information. Could you please re-fill the form and we will have someone assist you next time? I am new and don’t know how to update mailbox accounts.
***Now Sandra could be kind and understanding by returning another time or she can use her lower energy levels to resolve and request an urgent resolution to her problem. In this scene Sandra will choose the latter.
Sandra: I demand to speak with a supervisor! I have filled out this form twice and I cannot continue to use my time and gas to resolve a very simple problem. I am not leaving here until this issue is resolved!
Postoffice Employee: Let me get my supervisor.
Supervisor: What can I help you with?
Sandra: I have filled out this form twice. I have been patient and taken time out of my day to resolve what seems like a simple mailbox issue and apparently my previous two completed forms have gone missing. Your employee doesn’t have any training on how to resolve this matter so we hope you do. I need this resolved immediately! If I return for the same issue I will go with a different mailbox provider.
Supervisor: I’m sorry to hear that, ma’am. The person who used to do the mailbox updates is on maternity leave. So I will see what I can do and figure out how to resolve this issue for you immediately.
Sandra: That would be great! Thank you!
***After an hour the supervisor finds Sandra’s forms, updates her information, and even gives her a discounted rate for her annual mailbox fee as an inconvenience courtesy.
The moral of the story is when we use our lower energy level with the intention to promote action it is advantageous, not manipulative. Sandra could’ve used a nicer tone. She probably would’ve waited longer, wasted gas, and risked losing her mailbox due to this unresolved issue. The trained employee on maternity leave should not have impacted her mailbox's good standing status, but it did. So by going to the post office demanding an immediate resolution, she used her lower energy levels to her advantage.
Another instance in which you can exert lower energy levels is when you want others to fix their own problems. This works exceptionally well if you are a person who struggles to set boundaries. If you are always jumping up to everyone’s rescue, finding yourself exhausted while everyone lives a happy life; it’s time to vibrate lower my friend. Maybe you no longer want to be responsible for everything. Maybe you tried all the win-win scenarios and the person simply doesn’t get it. Maybe it’s time you started being a little irresponsible. For instance, do you have to make dinner for everyone for the whole weekend while you’re away on a business trip? What if you took the day off and felt like lying on the couch all day while people went to your voicemail? What’s the worst that could happen? Maybe try doing minimal work for that employer who only gives you minimal performance reviews after you continuously overachieve. Wouldn’t that take a huge load off your shoulders?
The point is all energy levels are needed. There really isn’t one energy level that is better than the other. They are all fluid and when used with intention not to manipulate, they can work to our advantage. If interested in learning more about energy levels, internal and external reactions, take an Energy Leadership Index assessment where I tell you all about it. For now, here is a little chart to help you decide what energy levels to intentionally use.
Now that we got that out of the way, which energy levels will you be using intentionally? What will you start doing differently to demand action from those around you? Share with me in the comments—don’t be shy.
